Why we need to save the Charter Review Board
There have been a number of proposals in the past to change the CRB from an elected board to a board appointed by the County Commission, that would only meet when directed to do so by the County Commission. This means that the CRB would serve the Commissioners, not the people. If the people wanted a self-serving board of Commissioners they wouldn’t have passed term limits. I think we will all sleep better knowing that someone else is watching. This is the review part of Charter Review Board.
Incredibly, the County Commissioners already have a method they can use to propose charter amendments. So why would they want to directly control the the CRB also? Could it be that they want to propose changes that they don't want the public to know they are behind? Just what is the agenda of those who have proposed this type of change and what is their background?
